EDGE, a leading multi-disciplinary property and construction consultancy, has completed its scope of work on a pioneering new stroke rehabilitation facility, which opened at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (DBTH) this week.

The Phoenix Therapy Suite, based at Montagu Hospital within the Fred and Ann Green Rehabilitation Centre, gives patients access to cutting-edge therapies previously unavailable on the NHS – designed to help stroke survivors regain independence and accelerate recovery.

This milestone marks the culmination of EDGE’s cost-management services on the project, ensuring that the facility was delivered efficiently, on budget, and with maximum value for the Trust and its patients.

Brad Fella, senior cost manager at EDGE, said: “We’re incredibly proud to have supported DBTH in delivering such a transformative facility here in South Yorkshire. The Phoenix Therapy Suite is a powerful example of what can be achieved when innovation, care and strategy come together – with a brilliant collaborative approach from all project partners. At EDGE, we are committed to improving outcomes for places and people, and this project really reflects that mission.”

The suite includes advanced robotic and interactive devices, which support walking, arm and hand movement, and cognitive function. Such technology, previously only available privately, allows patients to take part in personalised rehabilitation, while still working closely with specialist therapists.

Professor Deb Lowe, medical director of the Stroke Association and Co-chair of the Stroke GIRFT programme, added: “The UK currently has 1.2 million stroke survivors, with numbers expected to almost double in the next decade. Facilities like the Phoenix Therapy Suite are game-changers – giving patients the chance not just to survive stroke, but to thrive and recover more fully.”

The new service was made possible thanks to the generosity of the late Fred and Ann Green, with the remainder of their legacy funds, and support from DBTH Charity, enabling the purchase of the equipment.

Zara Jones, deputy chief executive at DBTH, commented: “The Phoenix Therapy Suite is a perfect example of our new Trust strategy, Healthier Together, delivering exceptional care for all. It shows how technology can support recovery while empowering people to take control of their health and future.”

EDGE, operating across six UK offices and serving 17 core sectors, brings decades of expertise in cost management, project delivery and strategic advisory services.

Its deep understanding of NHS estates enables EDGE to deliver high-quality consultancy that allows clients to focus on patient care. Its healthcare portfolio continues to grow, with clients including Cambridge Children’s Hospital, Liverpool Women’s Hospital, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, and Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
