A US and UK tech initiative designed to accelerate access for UK firms to the US has partnered with Nexus and the University of Leeds to bring US insurance technology experts to Leeds on 5th October.

Launched in 2022, the InsurTech Corridor is a non-profit collaboration between the UK and Connecticut, which has already assisted more than 20 scaling UK insurtech, fintech, climatetech and legaltech ventures connect into the US insurance and financial services ecosystem.

Yorkshire tech firms will be able to meet the Hartford, Connecticut and Boston-based team at a free event from 2pm on October 5th that includes presentations on entering the US technology and insurance markets, as well as hearing from UK and US tech leaders about their experiences growing their businesses in North America.

The event, which will run from 12.30pm to 3.30pm at the University of Leeds Nexus innovation centre on Woodhouse Lane, will also include the opportunity to book one to one meetings aimed at helping UK tech firms accelerate progress in the US market.

The six-strong Insurtech Corridor delegation is led by chief business investment officer at the MetroHartford Alliance, Gene Goddard, and Mike Hendy, a former fintech executive and now senior trade officer at the British Consulate in Boston, who leads the support of UK tech firms in insurance, financial services and climate and regulatory markets.

Glenn McCauley of University of Leeds said "We are really excited to help showcase the support available for UK tech firms expanding into the US, especially those with customers in the massive US insurance sector. With several cohort companies specialising in risk and climate tech, alongside our University's active research partnerships in these fields, this event is a fantastic opportunity to share knowledge and connect local businesses with the US team."

“We wanted to come and meet scaling insurtechs and fintechs from all over the UK, and we are excited to join events and hold meetings in Leeds where we are aware there is a thriving and impressive tech community. Many UK tech firms have huge opportunities in the US and within the insurance market in particular,” said Gene Goddard.

“We are keen to be accessible to as many firms and founders as possible while we are in Leeds. Whether you are a pure-play insurtech, or a wider fintech, climate tech or legaltech, if you have an opportunity within the US market, especially in the huge insurance market, we want to see if we can help you make faster progress in the market over there,” added Mike Hendy.

Interested companies can register for the event and with the InsurTech Corridor team at the University of Leeds Nexus innovation hub here, and one-to-one meetings can also be requested via email [email protected].
