Sheffield Business School lecturer awarded Academic Fellowship of the CIPD

Dr Alim Abubakre, senior lecturer in International Business at Sheffield Business School, has been awarded the highest academic grade of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) membership
An Academic Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (Academic FCIPD) is awarded to senior academics, researchers, and thought leaders who shape human resources (HR) and learning and development (L&D) policy, practice, and knowledge nationally or internationally.
Dr Abubakre’s academic work explores the critical intersection of international strategy, institutional systems, and people management. His research investigates how organisations collaborate during major crises—including cross-sector responses across Sub-Saharan Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic—and addresses systemic barriers that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) encounter in public procurement.
Alongside his role at Sheffield Business School, Dr Abubakre serves as a board director of the Business Council for Africa, bridging high-level scholarly research with the practical realities confronting global business leaders and investors.
Dr Alim Abubakre, said: “Recognition should increase responsibility, not simply status. For me, this Fellowship is a commitment to make knowledge travel further: from research into teaching, from teaching into organisations, and from organisations into decisions that improve performance and widen opportunity. International business ultimately succeeds through people, trust and relationships.
“My next step is to deepen the connection between scholarship and practice, helping leaders understand complex systems better, build stronger institutions and turn insight into action that people can actually experience.”
