Family-run York business The Hearing Place is celebrating after being named a finalist in three categories at the Yorkshire, Humberside and North East Family Business Awards 2026.

The independent hearing specialist is shortlisted for Consumer Services, Small Retailers & E-tailers and the People's Choice award, with judges describing the standard of this year’s entries as ‘outstanding’.

Winners will be announced at a ceremony at The Majestic Hotel in Harrogate on 13 November.

Meanwhile, The Hearing Place has reached the final round of voting in the YorkMix Choice Awards 2026, with the business also shortlisted in three categories: Best Independent Shop, Best Customer Experience and Best Professional Services Provider. Winners will be announced on 29 October at the Milner Hotel in York.

Jess Kyei-Yamoah, co-owner of The Hearing Place, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to reach the finals of both of these awards. We pride ourselves on the excellent service we provide, so to be recognised for it is incredibly special. It’s a fantastic achievement for our family-run business, and reflects the team's dedication to providing friendly, professional and personalised hearing care to the local community. We love how engaged our clients become with the awards, often remembering them and talking about them months after the event.”

This month also marks one year since The Hearing Place opened its clinic in Haxby Shopping Centre. The business has clinics across Yorkshire, and specialises in services such as hearing tests, fitting hearing aids and professional ear wax removal.

Jess added: “We love being a part of the community in Haxby, especially getting involved in the scarecrow and sculpture trails. Our customers are at the heart of everything we do, and we’re passionate about helping people hear better and enjoy life to the fullest.”

Sue Howorth, co-founder and director of The Family Business Community, said: “The quality of this year’s entries has been exceptional, making the judges’ decisions particularly challenging. Every finalist should feel incredibly proud of what they have achieved. We’re looking forward to bringing family businesses from across Yorkshire, Humberside and the North East together to celebrate their achievements and the people behind them.”

Returning judge and sponsor, Emma Harvey, MD of Candid HR, added: “The calibre of applications has been outstanding, and it’s clear that family businesses in our region are both proud of their legacy and impact to their local communities. Many of the entries showcased forward thinking, and a progressive mindset for both the current and future generations.”
