Barratt and David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West has donated £1,500 to Children’s Heart Surgery Fund (CHSF), which enables children, adults and families affected by congenital heart disease (CHD) to live empowered lives.

The charity was started by surgeon Duncan Walker in 1988, operating out of Leeds Killingbeck Hospital. Decades later, there are now more adults than children living with CHD, and over 90% of CHD patients reach adulthood.

Children’s Heart Surgery Fund, which helps those in Yorkshire, The Humber, North Lincolnshire and North Derbyshire, provides funding for vital resources for the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit and hospitals across the region.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ donation was made as part of its Community Fund scheme via The Barratt Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.

Georgie Abbott, corporate partnerships manager at Children’s Heart Surgery Fund, said: “It was a total surprise when we found out about Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ donation. Fundraising is harder than ever, so we’re so grateful for this support.

“One in 125 babies are born with CHD in our region, and CHSF has never been more essential to their wellbeing. Thanks to our supporters, our charity provides a holistic support service for heart families and dedicated support for young people, championing patients of all ages throughout their lives.

“Donations also provide vital resources and services including parent accommodation, life-saving medical equipment and staffing beyond the scope of the NHS.

“On behalf of everyone at CHSF, I would like to say thank you so much to Barratt and David Wilson Homes. We’re so thankful, and the charity wouldn’t work without kindness like this.”

Gavin Birch, managing director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West, said: “It is our pleasure to be able to offer Children’s Heart Surgery Fund a donation to support its vital work.

“The charity continues to make a significant impact to the lives of local people, and we’re delighted to help contribute to this.”
